Because of the outbreak of Achewood Mania lately, I was wondering what comics you guys like. I read them everyday on the bus and every weekend morning when I'm watching cartoons and eating Shreddies.
Sherman's Lagoon is probably my fave of all time. About a shark that's kind of the ocean equivalent of Homer Simpson.

I'm not clear if this is Comic's (like in the newspaper) or Comic BOOKs or Comic Show's ......???
anyway.........i LOVE COMIC BOOKS....my favourites are EC Horror Comics from the 50's....i found a resource recently on Ebay, but before buying there, i am gonna go to this GREAT comic book store my BF took me to in D.C. and see if i can relieve them of any more compliations. ehehhehe
- The Vault of Horror - The Haunt of Fear - Tales from the Crypt - Weird Science - Shock and SuspenStories - Weird Fantasy - Two-Fisted Tales - Panic
if ANYONE knows any more comic's in this vein PLEASE post on this thread. i can't get enough of this stuff.
------- a couple of my favourite NEWSPAPER comic's
- Calvin & Hobbes (i named a kitty kot after the TIGER in this lovely tale)
- Boondocks (daily in the Washington Post) - Hagar the Horrible (childhood fav.)
-------- COMIC (animated)shows
- Simpsons (have 1st season DVD's) - Beavis and Butthead - Southpark (have 1 DVD.....need to get MORE)

I meant comic strips, but hey, let's expand it to books, too. I used to collect X-Men comics fanatically, until the Age of Apocalypse. Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Punisher, wow... I blew hundreds on those things, still have a lot of them. I have no idea what's going on in comic book land now... it's depressing. And I never see comics in stores anymore.
And I've got a ton of Transformers comic books! Quite a bit different than the show, though.

man i LOVE XMEN......the old ones. i had a friend who let me read them all. he had the most extensive collection i've ever seen......pristine collection. i just had to read them at his casa.....but otherwise i was left to read and read for hours......it was marvy. funny thing is i never bought them, maybe cos i always knew there'd be some guy around who'd let me read them......tee hee
batman and spiderman are good too (i enjoy the new series on cartoon nextwork and fox) again.....enjoyable reads but i never bought/collected them.
i loved buying in canada tho, i only went to a comic store in vancouver twice and they had SUCH amazing deals (ze ole US dollah) gotta love the exchange rate!
i wanna see more HORROR comic fans (i like the classic style.....not the gross out gore stuff btw....i know there's a lot of that out there)

Jack Kirby used to draw for some of that stuff, didn't he? This one is classic
I love the old Kamandi comics that Kirby did.

for EC comic's there were many different artists (from the 50's) none of who's names rang a bell.....however i'm not a comic art expert. i just know that i loved it.......alllll. thats a cool link, i'll look into it more.
*looks around sheepishly cos i SHOULD know more about the artists* ehhehe

The EC comics reprints used to give me nightmares, they were fucking eeeevil. I prefer the DC and Marvel comics from the 60s and 70s where they often mixed up horror themes with superheroes, alternate dimensions, Dr. Strange being a prime example. Morbius the living vampire, Dracula and the bad muthas who hunted him, good times.
Jack Kirby also did romance comics! A friend lent me an anthology of them. I love the way his art looks chiseled, like a woodcut.

Nightcrawler, methinks? Yeah, I'm surprised Gambit wasn't in the first one, I remember him being very popular... then again, I have no idea what happened to his character in the years it's been since I read the series. He could be dead for all I know. :-/

they used to give me nightmares TOO.....thats why i loved them so much. i love to be scared.....strange i know but maybe it's the adrenaline rush....ehehhehe
i have read morbius, he's a NICE vampire.....who wants that.....ehehhehe
i like sci fi/superhero/horror......i even like casper the friendly ghost comics. IMO the comic's of today are really lacking in storylines.....i dunno maybe i'm an old school snob?

hahahha!
8^D
Calvin and Hobbes
The Far Side comics
Garfield
Bizzaro comics
(old skool early era science fiction comics pre 1940's)
Buck Rodgers
The Green Lanturn
Flash Gorden
Those early ones just kicked the ass all over the new comics comming out today... except for maybe Jimmy the homisidal maniac.
The green lanturns creater used the shapes on the human anatomy for his ships and aliens .... hint hint.... hahah, he admits to it too, like star ships shaped like giant penis's and aliens that look like a clit, pubic hairs for the hair and all that ...... stuff like that. Its just wonderful.
And plus comics back then were WAY more popular back then. And often times the artists/creators were educated in the scientific research and technology, often times artists would talk to real scientists for advise, suggestions, critiques.. I wish I could get in a time machine and go back to the 40's.... a world with peace, and no hate, and in the 20's to 40's era would be my ideal heaven.

Holy shit Jayphecks, I guess we weren't cut from the same mold after all. Why'd you leave X-Men at The Age of Apocalypse you pussy? Some of the storylines were awesome, especially Uncanny and Wolverine. Jesus, I can't believe Mr.Big Bad Canuckle Head Hockey Player couldn't tough it out for 4 issues.
If you hadn't redeemed yourself by announcing Remy LeBeau to be the most awesomest mutant on this side of the Marvel Universe I would have never talked to you ever again.

I was getting bored of comics by the time the Age of Apocalypse came out, it wasn't really that storyline that turned me off, it was just like the straw that broked the camel's back. I bought a few issues here and there afterwards though.
